I drink iced tea every single day of the year...there is always a pitcher full in my refrigerator.

I use Lipton Cold Brew...filtered water from the fridge door...no sugar.

Trust me - the Celestial Seasonings is WAY better than the Lipton Cold Brew. It tastes better and brews stronger and faster.

-Dan.

Dan, while I respect your opinion, the only Celestial teas I like are SleepyTime and Peppermint and I drink those hot when I can't sleep or I have a stomach ache. I also don't like Chai or flavored teas, so that's how I ended up using Lipton Cold Brew...it's plain and straightforward...I like my iced tea like that.

HA! That sounds about right!

I like Luzianne for my ice tea. Ususally, I just run hot water from my tap (it's really hot), add the bags, and let it steep for a few minutes. I read somewhere that if you let the tea cool completely before putting it in the fridge, it will keep it from getting cloudy.

I don't put sugar in it but I do add sweetener.

How do you make your tea?
Cold tap water (NYC has excellent water) into electric tea kettle
Bring to boil, let stand for a minute to avoid cooking the tea leaves
Warm tea pot with some water from kettle, pour out
Prepare tea ball with loose tea, place in bottom of tea pot (hot tea) or pitcher (iced tea)
Pour in hot water, stir and steep 9-10 minutes
Remove tea ball
Serve hot, or stir in sugar and cool before refrigerating

Hot water? Sun tea?
No

Tap water or bottled?
Tap water

Loose leaf tea or bags? How much?
Loose
Depends on how much I'm making

Any special flavours of tea?
I use a Russian blend of Oolong, Keemun, and smoked Lapsang Souchong
Roobios (red tea)
Sencha green tea

How much sugar do you put in, if any?
With hot tea and milk--First sip, I hold a sugar cube between my teeth and draw the tea through the sugar cube, then melt the rest of the cube in my mouth. After that, you can toss in as many sugar cubes as desired.

Iced tea--around 1/3 cup in 2 quart pitcher

How sweet does it have to be to be called "sweet tea"?
I think that is up to personal taste, though I've had sweet tea comparable to Coke

Justafan, I have done that too. Haven't with Earl Grey, but with Good Earth tea I did find out it was delicious cold.

I like Snapple peach ice tea. I buy a bottle, pour it over a lot of ice and squeeze in some lemon. My favorite!

Oh yes, Snapple peach is the only bottled tea I like. I wonder why they don't sell it in a larger bottle. They used to, but I have not seen a large bottle of Snapple in a long time.

I tried a "clone" recipe for peach Sapple, but it was nothing like the real thing.

For all you southerners who like sweet tea Coca Cola has put out the Gold Peak line. It is wonderful and like the real thing! Now I need to clarify that I've only tried the diet and the unsweetened versions but my family members who can still have regular sugar say it's great.

I just heard about that today! I do not know if it is the same, but I also heard that they are going to start to carbonate fruit juices as well.

Earl Grey makes an excellent iced tea.

I usually just use Lipton tea bags but will also use other kinds.

I bring a small pot of water to boil on the stove. Turn off the heat and steep 8 regular size tea bags in it for several minutes to create a very strong tea base. Pour the tea base into a gallon pitcher and fill the pitcher with cold water. I then sweeten it with 1 cup of Splenda. (When I used regular sugar I dissolved the sugar in the tea base while it is still hot.) Refrigerate.

If I want a flavored tea, like mint, peach or berry, I replace one of the 8 regular tea bags with one flavored tea bag. This keeps the flavor from being overwhelming.

I used to make traditional sun tea by setting a gallon of water with tea bags in the sun. I don't anymore because any left over tea taste mildewy by the next day.

I frequently will clean my gallon pitcher by filling it with hot water and a touch of bleach to prevent that tea mildew taste.

I will not use Celestial Seasoning teas because many of them contain Chamomile which I am allergic to.

Cloudy tea: To prevent cloudy tea don't squeeze your tea bags.

Baking soda softens the water. But, it also adds sodium (salt).

As I just posted: Squeezing the tea bags to get out that last bit of flavor clouds the tea.

it also makes the tea really bitter.

I also rinse the tea jug with hot water and a touch of bleach to keep it clean :)

Boiling water seems to make the tea taste bitter to me, so I use hot water straight from the faucet to fill the jug and then put the tea bags into it. No bitterness that way, unless I leave the tea bags in too long.

I've never used hot water from faucet to consume since it might have lead in it.

Since I've never built a house to know there is no lead solder I only use hot water from the faucet to clean dishes before putting in dishwasher or for cleaning floors or showering in.

I use Island Mist tropical tea. It is so good. I brew it using my tea brewer. It's loose leaf tea.

They serve China Mist tea at one of the Chinese food places I go, and it's really good, too. I've been thinking about ordering it.

Sometimes I use the Keurig machine and brew ceylon tea over ice. yum.

I am going to have to find those teas, Kath...they sound perfect for iced tea. I love the flavored iced tea at Panda Express.

That's where I'm talking about! You can get it here, but you have to buy quite a bit. I just freeze it till I need it. Our Panda Express uses the traditional.

If I remember correctly, the China Mist tea used at Panda Express is flavored with passion fruit. This tea was the closest I could come to finding it in a store: http://www.cw-usa.com/paradise-passion-fruit-filterpack-case.html

This is the only way I will drink tea cold. Yes I know I was born and raised in the south, and that ice tea is king, but I do not care for it. I prefer hot foods, and hot drink, so the tea is hot.

I make one exception, although I dare say it is not so much Iced tea, as it is Tea infused cold Juice.

Tazo bottled teas are TASTY!!!! *Droooolllllll*
I first learned about them to help with my sleep problems, they didn't work, but they were still nicely priced then(not soo much now, less than a can of redbull, but not by much)

Kimmy, I went to Panda Express the other day and found that they had changed the label to China Mist Panda Passion. It was very good!

Here is a link to the China Mist Passion.

ohhh, thank you, Kath! I'll have to try it soon...maybe on Tuesday. I just got a job back with the title company I used to work for, and there's a Panda Express right around the corner.

I ordered a sample pack from China Mist. It has 5 different flavors and is half the price than if you ordered them individually. It says the deal expires Aug 31, but I just ordered last night and still got the deal.
