I wasn't feeling neglected here Kath - I just tend to post at nearly the same moment as others and my posts are missed. It isn't a big deal, but I don't like it.

I just found out that the college class BigBee is taking is $600. It may be covered by a grant, but not until he finishes it. We didn't know that. So, now I need the money by the end of August. And tires. And school clothes. And I if I am called for fed jury duty - gas or hotel money. Errgh.

Mike is lucky that you are willing and able to back him up as he needs it. And, I totally get why you wouldn't tell your mom.

Kath...sorry that your house is so hot. We just had to replace both our heating and air systems after having no air conditioning for 1.5 years (our unit died when my dh was unemployed last year).

I will note that my family is a lot less grumpy now that the house isn't hot (on days close to 100 degrees even the ceiling and window fans just didn't do the job). I will be interested in seeing my new electric bill. It will probably be high this month because the hvac contractor loaned us two window air conditioners for several days while we were waiting for the unit(s) installation.

I would also like to note that I didn't notice hot flashes when the house was hot and now that it has cooled off they are waking me up again.

I hope that the transition to getting Mike on SSI will go smoothly. I think that the counselor is correct, it will be good to have finances ready in the event that they are needed.

We use window units here to keep things cool. They don't always do the job as well as we would like, but they definitely try.

My youngest has to deal with the fact that brother and sister are busy for the next two weeks, and she has no one to interact with at home. Brother still has college classes, sister has band camp. She goes to her grandparents during the day while I'm at work. She used to love the attention from her grandparents, but now they are "boring." (Grandma is working part-time again, and grandpa is likely to nap if he sits for long.) I've got her assigned math review and a book report just to give her something besides tv and video games.

School in one month. Hard to believe the summer is half over.

Mbee, do you think there is a possibility of fed jury duty, or are you anticipating?

{{{Julia}}} I am glad I don't have them anymore, but now I get cold easy.

I really don't mind the window units, but taking them in and out of the bedroom windows is a pain. I just cover mine and Mike's with plastic, but Linz is on the nw side of the house and it gets really cold, so we have to take it out.

Thanks for the hugs, Megan!

No kidding. And Linz's school schedule is all messed up. I really hate it that they send them out and then there's no one around till august.

No problems about the hugs. What else are friends for?

We take our AC units out in the winter, even though it is a pain in the rear to store them. This house has virtually no insulation so it is difficult to heat/cool it (not to mention expensive).

That's stupid about the class scheduling...sorry.

Jeepers! I haven't been around here very much have I?

Ouch! For school clothes this year we are doing Goodwill. It's a lot easier finding nice stuff for Aryn and Ethan that actually fits them nicely and it's a LOT cheaper!!

Ty's not taking any AP or honors classes this year. HOPEFULLY this will mean an easier year for him, but I don't know. He really has to apply himself this year or he is toast.

Registration for Zoe is August 4th, Ethan and Aryn on the 10th and Ty on the 9th. Of course the Middle school and high schools can't manage to do registration on the same day even though they are right across the street from each other. I'm thinking it's because it would make WAY to much sense and from my experience administration and those that do scheduling for this just can't seem to think sensibly. Nope that would be WAY to hard for them.

We just got back a few hours ago from Six Flags Great America up north of Chicago! Had a blast yesterday! Zoe got a little scared on a few of the roller coasters but she survived and had a lot of fun! We ended up letting Ty and his eldest two cousins roam around on their own most of the time. They had a cell phone and we had designated meeting locations and times so things were good! The rest of us roamed around together! My mom didn't ride but two or three rides, mostly because she just had surgery 10 days ago, so she sat with Zoe or any of the kids that didn't want to go on a certain ride or something and it was nice because some how at these sorts of places you always end up with a ton of stuff to carry around! I wish I had been thinking and had brought a small backpack because that would have been IDEAL for transporting all those little things! And a hard sided case for my glasses would have been good too.

So my FIL came out daily and checked on the dogs for us and I guess my older dog wouldn't eat for him at all. But he didn't seem any worse for wear - and he at really well once I got home and got him outside for a time. I filled the bowl with fresh food and he ate the entire bowl! I'm thinking he was just missing us!

3 weeks of summer left for us. I can't believe in three weeks I'll be pushing kids to get to bed at a decent time and then having to get up earlier to get everyone off to school!

Blessings,

Garsy

Mbee, I'm praying things work out for you. We're looking at a tough year financially, ourselves.

Garsy, I had to smile at your comment on getting kids to bed before school. With band camp and college summer classes, we're getting an early start on that. Last week was tough, though. K decided to sleep at home instead of at her grandparents, so she's getting to bed and getting up early, too. Today was easier, no grumpy-pants to be seen.

Kath, S won't get her HS schedule until Aug. 11th, so we don't have any idea what to expect. We haven't heard whether the block schedule is completely gone or whether classes are half and half like last year. Plus we have a new HS building, so the first month of this year will be interesting.

School starts on Aug. 16th for us. They're starting on Monday instead of Tuesday or Wednesday for a change. Marching band (and football) get into full swing at the end of August.

We start on the 16th too!

I think I'm more worried about ME getting up to get the kids up in time to catch the bus!

Speaking about electric bills.... we got our the other day and it was $ 300.00 !! The last one we got was an estimate and it was pretty low. We knew it was coming, but still. We have central air and a pool filter. I hare that they estimate some months, but it saves them money.

Garsy, glad you had a good time. Becky and I had a good time visiting our relatives in Battle Creek MI . It started raining as soon after we got into town and then off and on Friday, but stopped during the night.

School starts here on the 25th and I'm ready. I do enjoy their company and it will be strange around here for the first few days, but I'm sure I'll adjust. We haven't done any shopping yet.

I guess we got almost 7 inches of rain in some of the surrounding suburbs and there was flooding. It's suppose to dry up this week.

Deb, I wish we had that rain. We soooo need some rain around here. The grass and Pa's garden are feeling the pain. Our area is nearing drought status.

We have been getting a fair amount of rain here.

I went to Omaha today and forgot to go to the chiropractor. Now I'll have to make a special trip. It was so hot and no a/c in the car, that all I could think of was to get home.

The rain is going to all fizzle out before it even gets here today I bet.

We had dental appointments yesterday. Fillings for me first at my dentist then a QUICK 5 minute drive to the kid's dentist. Aryn came through okay, but Ty had the hygienist giving him a piece of her mind! He quite honestly deserved it! He brushes but no where near long enough and tends to not pay great attention to ALL areas of his mouth. And he had a filling. AND next week he gets his wisdom teeth removed in hopes of opening up room in his already crowded mouth his teeth are crooked or anything just very very crowded. They are hoping that this will help and decrease some of the headaches Ty's been getting lately.

Next week is registration for the elementary school and I have to be there at least part of the day as I am now the chair of the Flower and Garden program at our school. Ty has his appointment at 10:30 that morning. Thankfully Brian is off that day!

Then the next week is registration for Ty on Monday and Aryn and Ethan on Tuesday.

I'm not done school shopping yet. Don't think I will be until right before school starts or even after.

Blessings,

Garsy

I fell asleep with a hard candy against my tooth. I wonder what that will do. I am hoping it was against a crown. I had acid reflux last night, it woke me up so I needed to suck on a candy for a bit. I didn't plan on sleeping.

I called the school again yesterday, and the counselor isn't back yet.

Hmm, I go to sleep with hard candy (peppermints, or cough drops) in my mouth quite often. Sometimes it's the only way I can sleep if I'm having a coughing fit. I guess that's not a good thing LOL.

Hi all! that

We got back from vacation Monday night, late.

We went to see hubby's folks in Washington State and spent some time in Yellowstone on the way home. We drove from West Yellowstone. Montana to Abilene in two days; those were two long days. We could have stayed gone a day longer but we were ready to come home.

When we got out in Grand Island Nebraska we were reintroduced to humidity.

Anybody have stuff like Clorox wipes on their school supply lists? I assume they are to clean desks; doesn't seem the most economical way to go.

We're going to town where the big stores are today so I need to take inventory soon.

No clorox wipes on my lists - but I will tell you that they are a VERY easy way to clean up marker and crayon marks on table tops!

I've got to get Ty to go through his binders today and see what we need to replace. I have to go shopping this afternoon.

Blessings,

Garsy

Cook-ies! Cook-ies! I could use a few, especially if they're chocolate chip. It's been one of those days.

Shoot! Forgot chocolate chips when at the store!

Finally done with school shopping. Except for a few minor things that we may get by without buying. I don't see the point of multi-colored note cards when if need be Aryn could just color code them. I'm not buying overhead markers, unless absolutely necessary! Those things are expensive! And Ethan needs a pair of shoes, but that will happen in a couple of weeks when Brian gets paid again.

Blessings,

Garsy

I must brag for a moment. We drove down today to have the kids' placement tests and the family interview for their new school. DS12 got complimented on his math skills, and they want DD14 to take the honors track for HS....did I just say high school??? Ack!

As we were walking around the hall, I saw a beautiful calligraphy of the Ten Commandments on the wall. I chuckled - ha ha! Then I said, "Jesus, Jesus Jesus!" DD14 gave me a weird look, and I said, "I just like saying that without having to worry if the "church and state" police are lurking around the corner." Not the I ever had any problems in any of our schools here, but it's cool to know it will actually be part of the curriculum.
