I insert the test strip, then poke. It's only a matter of seconds so I don't think it will get bad that fast.

Since most of you have your lancet sticker thing turned up to a higher number than I do, I decided to try mine at 9. Yowl! You all are very brave. I'm back at 2 now.

9???? May as well just slice open your fingertip! Mine has been set at 6 since I started.

That's what I do.

I don't think it matters so much which order one does it in. Doesn't take that long to open the bottle, get a strip, and put it into the meter.

Inserting the strip turns on the meter and gets it ready to receive the blood.

I don't think that short of exposure to air is what would cause inaccuracy.

9 is just plain crazy! I'm staying with my 1.5-2.

My meter, and I think most meters, does everything short of standing on its head and applauding. It averages readings, it records before meal averages, it tells me what my readings were years ago. It will remember if I was sick or whatever. It's smarter than I am.

I'm curious, how many of us actually use all those fancy features?

I never enter whether it's a before meal or after meal reading. I don't enter if I was sick or whatever. The only feature I do pay attention to is my averages. My meter tells me what my average is for the last 7 days, last two weeks, and last month. It also tells me how many times I tested during those time periods. I do check that screen every time I test.

How about you all?

it doesn't ask me. I don't think it does half what yours does, unless I've missed it somewhere.

I just look at the number and go on with my life, adjusting my eating, exercising or medications as necessary. But, when I take my meter to my doctor appts, they download all the info from the meter and print out this nifty computer program for my chart ~ so I suppose the doctor's office finds it useful.

(I should note that I have three One Touch Ultra Meters, and I use 2 of them regularly to test, so looking at the averages wouldn't be all that helpful for me.)

The only other number I care about is my HbA1c.

My OneTouch Ultra has those features, but I don't always remember to use them.

I think my own written/typed records could be far more informative for my doc.... if I kept up with them!

I went to the diabetes Dr. today, my blood sugar is only 109. This is a vast improvement from where it was.

You can't see my smile, but it looks something like this:

I'm so proud of you and so happy for you!!! Keep up the good work.

By the way, what healthy choices of foods have you discovered you really like?

There's this new Raisin Bran Crunch that is tasty, better than the traditional raisin bran. I am slowly learning other foods too. The Dr. today told me if I just stay away from regular soda and sweets, that would go a long way for controlling my diabetes.

Gee, where have I heard that before? Oh yeah, it's what we've been telling you for the past couple of weeks.

Did you talk to the doctor about the weird meter readings you are getting when you test more than once? I'm just curious about what he thought caused that.

Mine does none of those things. Just tells me what my current reading is. Oh, it does remember the numbers from previous times, but only when you have that chip in it, I think. Like I said, I've had mine for years. It does good enough for me. I just write down my own numbers for the doctor. I remember when I was sick, and if it's significant, I'll put a note on the list I give him. (I give him 2 days of readings a week). Really though, the number I'm more interested in is the Hb1ac.

Mike, good going with the 109. Much better.
