Often. It's the sign of a really good book if I cry.

Except I wear glasses and its hard to cry and read at the same time.

I just finished One Tuesday Morning by Karen Kingsbury & am about to start the sequel Beyond Tuesday Morning. OTM def made me cry. I've only read a few of her books--this one book and First Born series. The FB series moved too slow and there were a zillion characters and plots to keep up with and was hesitant to read more of her stuff, but I got OTM from the library and loved it. Great pace and characters.

I sobbed most of the way through I Will Carry You by Angie Smith, about carrying and losing her daughter Audrey Caroline....

I once read a book called "I. Joseph Kellerman" and I cred through the entire book. It was a rollercoaster of emotions.

Black Beauty, The Yearling, Sophie's Choice (so depressing, don't read if you're pregnant or just had a baby), Nicholas Sparks "The Last Song" - read the book, don't go see the awful movie - A Tale of Two Cities, The Scarlet Letter, Old Yeller, sheesh - what book haven't I cried over? The part in Sense and Sensibility when MaryAnn weeps the last time over the loss of Willoughby - so many crying scenes, so little time left.......

Oh - one I totally forgot about - Cry, The Beloved Country - what a sad, sad, sad tale. So sad it had to be true.

I do and I still remember the first time I EVER cried during a book. It was the summer before my 7th grade year (1988) and it was Sweet Valley High book 40 SPOILER ALERT Regina dies as a result of a drug overdose. I was bawling.

My eyes have only watered while reading the following:

Jesus' story about the Prodigal son. Once.

The Genesis account of Joseph revealing himself to his brothers. Has happened to me multiple times.

I come from a very unforgiving background. Reconciliation means a lot to me.

Total tear jerker!

I've welled up a few times reading various books but when I read 'The Five People You Meet in Heaven' by Mitch Albom I absolutely sobbed, I have never reacted to a book so extremely before or since, it's such a lovely story but so very emotional!

Agreed!. I remember that back then too. That was so awful.
Another book...Animal Farm---George Orwell. I don't think that I cried, but I did get emotional about what happened to Boxer. I still can't get out of my mind, "I will worker harder". That really stuck with me.

I'm so glad to know that there are others like me who cry while reading a really great book. I have cried while reading books written by Francine Rivers. I really bawled while reading The Flames of Rome by Paul Meier.

The first time I read THE FLAMES OF ROME, I remember being so upset, crying, etc. The way it was written I guess I just felt like I was there watching my brothers and sisters being tortured.

The last book I remember crying over was a Charles Dickens book when a guy who lived on the street and had a really rough life died and I think his last words (or close to the last words) were the Lord's Prayer.....but now I'm not sure which book it is. I think maybe it was DAVID COPPERFIELD. Dickens seems to always make me feel those death scenes, too.

The only one that comes to mind right now is the novel of Star Trek Nemesis when Data died at the end

Lots of stories in the Chicken Soup for the Soul series make me cry. And it's the worst if I read them in the car while I'm waiting for my husband. He comes back to a useless puddle!

Anne of Green Gables, when Matthew died. That still gets me.

I cried when I finished the first chapter of Shack, realizing I still had many hours of total **** to wade through.
