Like I said. Don't want the side effects. I'm more than cuddly now.

I wish I could find something to take that would not cause weight gain. I am on no medication for fibro. because EVERYTHING I have tried so far puts 30-40 pounds on me in a hurry. Elavil worked wonders for the fibro and my migraines but I couldn't handle the weight gain. Weight gain makes me hurt more .

The only med I've tried, other than pain meds for the fibromyalgia is cymbalta. Don't know what else is available. Then again, the doctors would know what I could handle and not. Example, not putting me on Lyrica.

I posted this in my own thread, but I thought I'd post it here as well:

WARNING: Rant Ahead

Today has been a bad day! First off, it's the worst fibromyalgia day I've had in weeks! Everything hurts, and I've tried all the usual helps, and nothing has worked. It even hurts for me to sit here and type, which is why I haven't done much of it here today until now. I'm not sure what the trigger was today, the weather was beautiful and I haven't overdone it recently, so I'm perplexed. I can't sleep, it hurts to do anything, and I have trouble even getting up from the couch. Grr.

My mom had a bad allergic reaction to something (we don't know what) today. She got up from her nap this afternoon and the entire bottom half of her face was swollen on the right side. I immediately gave her an Epi-shot and a couple of Benadryl, and she seemed to be doing better, but she was very worn out from everything, so she wanted to lay back down for a while this evening. I wake her up about two hour later, and now BOTH sides of her face are swollen up like grapefruits! She didn't want another shot, and her airway wasn't compromised so I didn't insist, but it's been very uncomfortable for her tonight. Please pray for her.

So, you'd think that with all this going on today, my guys (DH, DS, and my Dad) would step up to help me out today. NOT! They just pretty much sat around or played on the computer or watched TV while I dealt with Mom, struggled with my own pain, cleaned up the house, made and baked 3 pizzas for dinner. I was fuming by the time I finished the dinner dishes! I mean, if I wanted their help at all, I had to explicitly ask, and even then, I got a lot of grumbling and procrastination. Apparently, they just don't "get it."

So, this evening, we had a family meeting. An educational meeting. I looked up all the info I could find on Fibro and made them listen while I recited symptoms, issues, and possible treatments, as well as explaining why most of those treatments are not an option for me. Now, I'm sure you're asking-Don't they already know all this stuff? Well, OF COURSE they do, but they seem to conveniently "forget" a lot so I figured they needed the reminder. Anyway, now the ball's in their court, what they do with the information given is up to them, but I will not tolerate another day like today!!!

So here's my rant: I am sick and tired of people who think that because I don't "look" sick, then I must not BE sick! I'm tired of the unspoken attitude that says I'm just lazy, or whiny, or I'm just trying to get out of my responsibilities. The attitude that verbally says, "What bit you?" when I am particularly tired or sore and maybe a little crabby or short-tempered. The attitude that says, "Ignore the problem and it will go away." The one that says, "That's YOUR problem, not mine."

Why is it so hard to get a little freakin compassion from the ones that are supposed to love you and care for you the most??? I get more compassion form you here, most of whom I have never even met, than I get from my own family. There's something seriously wrong with that.

How is everybody doing right now?

I've definitely been in pain, but some of that has been due to the procedures I had done last week.

I'm doing okay. Being away from home was rough, so rough that on Easter Sunday, I was hurting so bad I had no choice but to take a pain pill. But I started taking prednisone for my bronchitis, I noticed a cool side effect...it also helped the fibro pain!!! I'm down to just 2 pills today, and one tomorrow, so the fibro symptoms will likely return, but it's been nice while it lasted!

You traveled by car didn't you, Lisa? I don't do traveling long trips well at all.
The steroid in the predisone is what probally helped with the fibro pain. But, I can't be on steroids long, I balloon out with weight gain in a hurry.
Trish, I've been thinking of you. Hope you are soon having better days.

Thanks Melissa.

Don't know what's wrong with me, but the last week, I've been running hot and cold, and have a major case of the sweats. I'll be glad when it's all over.

The procedures were a week ago, so I'm able to move around again. Still having pain, but I'm hopeful the cortisone injections start taking effect soon. I was told they'd kick in about 2-3 weeks after the procedure.

Do any of you find that when you get sick with a cold or a flu bug that it takes you twice as long to recover from it? And does being sick like that typically flare or worsen your fibromyalgia symptoms?

I do. Then again, I'm also diabetic, so that doesn't help matters.

I've been running hot and cold now since the day after I had my procedures. I started feeling unwell the night before, but I'm still not any better. I hope things change very soon.

Coughing and sneezing tends to hurt. I mean, just a person who doesn't have fibro can sneeze and they may feel it in their ribs/back. With me, it just hurts more. Not sure if it's like that for other people.

I think it is, Trish. It's the like the pain with fibromyalgia is amplified. It goes deep into your tissues, joints and bones.

I think the hardest thing about is that pain can't be seen, so people are skeptical of the level of pain you are feeling. It can be very isolating, can't it?

Praying you get to feeling better soon!

I heard a doctor on a Christian TV show say the other day that people with fibro should eliminate or reduce their white flour and white sugar intake. Has anyone tried this? Did it help?

I should do better than I do, pink. It wouldn't hurt to elimainate the flour and sugar intake. Thanks for the reminder, cause I have heard this, too.

Speaking of coughing and sneezing as painful, Trish.... Coughing is what I initially did to my back that caused the disc to herniate. I still have to be very careful, because that pain was paralyzing and sent me to the hospital. I try to hold onto something, if I feel the need to cough or a sneeze coming on.

My back is giving me a fit today, again. Which in turn just makes me hurt all over. UGH!

Not really... It actually seems to take me half as long to recover as the average person.

Wow, this surprises me. But that's definitely cool for you. :)

pink, I've heard of eliminating stuff from your diet, but I've not done any eliminations... just moderation... well, except maybe for chocolate. :)

Ouch, Melissa!

A couple of years, I'm pretty sure that I cracked some ribs. Part of it would have been from moving heavy groceries etc around for a 70th birthday. I think, along with that, I was coughing and sneezing a lot. They wouldn't have helped each other.
