Four years ago, August 31, 2006, was day 1 nicotine-FREE for me. I'd like to share the secret for a super-easy, crave-free quit, but I don't have one. But when I quit, I closed the door on tobacco and nicotine. I committed to deal with one crave at a time, one hour at a time, and one day at a time any way that I could but without tobacco or nicotine. I dealt with each trigger that came along. I wore a rubber band on my left wrist and snapped it when craves got bad. I chewed toothpicks, coffee stir sticks, sugarless gum, and moistened cotton balls. I ate lots of Altoids and peanuts and beef jerky. I took long, vigorous walks. I did whatever it took to gain my freedom back. Then one day I realized the triggers and cravings were largely gone. The few that I felt were easily shrugged off. I WAS FREE AGAIN and the only way to lose it all was to take HAVE JUST ONE!!! I don't need it, I don't want it, I'm not stupid enough to have one for old time's sake. I can drive for miles, fly for hours, or sit half a day in a waiting area without a desire for tobacco. I can kiss my sweetheart of 38 years without concern for tobacco-breath. I can talk as long as I want to whomever I want without any need to feed the nicotine slave master. I don't have to plan my day or a trip around a need to get a nicotine fix. I AM FREE! ...As long as I remember how quickly I can lose it again. Euty ~ day 1,462 nicotine-FREE

Amazing Euty! Absolutely amazing! Just for the record - my husband is now 64 days days tobacco free! He talked with my uncle in mid June and they talked about how my uncle quit and the scare it took. And he took it to heart. The last cigarette he smoked was on June 26th 2010. I'm so very proud of him! Right now everyday is a struggle, but he's managing and winning! Blessings, Garsy

CONGRATULATIONS, EUTY!!!!!!!!!! That is a marvelous accomplishment. You have been an encourager and a motivator for those of us who may want to slip someday. I pray I make it four years. While I am tobacco free, I'm not nicotine free, due to these ecigs. I don't get withdrawal when I don't have one, so they're not giving me a lot of "juice", but they are my pacifier. (I'm puffing now but the power button isn't activated) I'm just grateful to be stinky expensive tobacco free. I was ordering them from Indian reservations, and I hear that now they can't be sent thru the mail or sold to non Native Americans. My asthma is stable, I don't cough, and my clothes don't stink. I was blessed by OUR LORD. I didn't need rubber bands, or food or much of anything. I was so blessed. The lollipops are sitting uneaten. I used about 4 nicotine lozenges, so they're largely unused too. I need these ecigs when commuting, and at evening during my down time. I just need to diddle with something when I drive. :{ time to go watch Barack. May need a cigarette.......just joking. CONGRATS. p.s. is that you in the avatar?

Even after I had been nicotine-Free for awhile, I still used sugarless gum and some of the other things I mentioned as pacifiers too. After so many years of feeding my addiction on a regular basis, it took a period of time before I no longer needed something to help deal with certain situations, whether stress or boredom.

oh2binva= Congratulation on your victory over tobacco for 4 months! That is in the right direction to be smoke-free 4 years as Eutychus has just experience. Just remember you are dealing with pain and surgery! So give yourself a pat on your back ( very carefully so it won't hurt) for your good job towards kicking the habit! You can do it... because God is going to give you the needed strength to do it!

Quitstickers! Good job all, we all make a difference! By what you have said in here, you have made a decisive difference in my life. By what we say/do in here, many might be helped to experience extra years of joy, sorrow, pain, bliss, love, LIFE! Friday and Saturday I did a 9 hour 500 meters elevation hike with my son, we pitched our tent on the high mountain plain to grill sausages, watch the sunset and the clear starry night sky. INCREDIBLE! Wherever and HOWever we are right now: Stop a minute and give thanks for and rejoice over LIFE. Give thanks to Him who heals and recreates. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxsw1w6O1xk

Congrats to garsyt's hubby! Congrats to Silverstring on your hike--that is an accomplishment. And Betty, you are God's appointed cheerleader-thank you. :) And Euty, God's appointed encourager. I was 5 months on 9/9. :) But I was really craving one at times during my time off. I actually looked at the clock one late afternoon and headed out to the garage for my smoke, cuz it was time! It's like I was on autopilot! Weird. Haven't done that in months. It's easier now that I'm back at work. Less time to think how bummed I am about my knee.

How's everyone doing? Today I'm on day 1,500 nicotine-FREE and still no magic formula to get where I am. Like anyone else who has broken these bonds, I closed the door on tobacco & nicotine and did whatever it took to stay free one crave, one hour, one day at a time. I spent most of yesterday sitting with my mother, who is in a hospital with a large blood clot in her right lung. However, I didn't have even the tiniest thought about nor the slightest twinge of a crave for nicotine during the drive down, the time in the hospital, or the drive back. Anyone can achieve the same kind of freedom from nicotine if you want it bad enough.

Father God, please heal Euty's mom. Please let the blood clot dissolve with no lasting sequelae. Bring peace and comfort to that family. Thank you.

Congratulations on your achievement of being smoke-free winner for 6 months! That is 1/2 of year of success! Eutychus, We want to acknowledge your success of being smoke-free for 1505 days of being nicotine free! That is super! Yes, we will be praying for your mom who needs a blood clot to dissolve. We are praying for her doctor too. Lord, we pray for Eutychus mother who has a blood clot on her lung. We know that You are able to do it because you did it for my dear husband who had a blood clot in both lungs and double pneumonia! We thank You for this miracle and we pray for another miracle for this precious lady! In the name of Jesus we are trusting,Amen _

Thanks for everyone's prayers. The doctor released mother from the hospital Monday. She will be on bed rest for awhile and will continue to take medicine to get rid of the blood clot. The doctor said her prognosis is good but it will take several months before the blood clot is completely dissolved.

Mom is doing better than expected and wants to be out & about more than the doctor wants her to. That's a good thing because she couldn't walk more than a few steps before without being completely out of breath. Thank you, Jesus! Euty ~ Day 1,517 nicotine-FREE
