Hi everybody!! Today is my first day of quitting (again). I've tried many times and failed, but I've never asked God for help in the matter. But I'm heading to the beach today after work today with my beautiful wife and daughter for the weekend, so maybe that will give me a little encouragement. I'll keep a watch on this thread and give everyone updates on how I'm doing with it, well, not till Monday anyway, but still. Please pray for me as I go through this valley as I will pray for each and every one of you! God bless!!!

Father God, i repeat my above prayer for this brother, too. And pink. Father, please. thank you.

My father will take me to the doctors tomorrow, and i will send home my cigarettes with him to give to my sister. yep, spreading the plague, but can't bear to throw 10 cartons in the trash.

When I finally went cold turkey, I threw away a whole, unopened 200 piece box of nicotine gum plus about 20 from another box. That represented a chunk of change for me, but it felt good to "Close the Door" on nicotine.

I'm praying for your quick recovery!!!

Thanks, all--the pain is less and I sat in the doctors office yesterday. The lumbar traction, modification of PT and above all the mercy of God are working.

My mom didn't come down to visit because here COPD is so bad she can no longer sleep thru the night. My dad doesn't know, as they sleep in separate rooms and he is deaf as a post. He is an ex smoker and is so hard on her.

She has decided to quit smoking after 65 years. she can barely breathe. Would you all please pray for her success and for a subsequent improvement in her emphysema?

Thank you all for your prayers and faithfulness. I need to be able to sit in order to go back to work in 3-4 weeks. Thank you.

Thank you, Betty--the pain is pretty bad today. I will go to an acupuncturist tomorrow--it can't hurt and may help. This is not an anti-Christian outfit--I've been there before.

But despite tears of pain and discouragement these past few weeks, I haven't picked up a real cigarette--thank you Jesus. Been just a little tempted, but so far, so good.

Thank you all, for your prayers. haven't posted in a while as the pain has been very bad due to my back--the knee replacement pain is a picnic in comparison. No success after 2 acupuncture treatments, but i continue to pray to God that my back would be healed so I can return to work. if necessary, i found I can be off till the end of July. I thank God for that. Today is exactly 4 weeks since surgery, and it's been a long haul.

I am having very unchristian emotional crying meltdowns several times a day--self-pitying crying due to discouragement. I holler at myself for clumsiness. The pain just won't stop. PT was rough today and I can barely walk.

Please pray that i will remember his provision, and trust him for healing, and a return to work, if that be his will. I pray it is--I'm a physician, and have been in this practice for 19 years and am completely unqualified to do anything else due to profound over-education.

but no real cigs, just these electronic ones, which are helping me cope.

Please continue to pray for me, if you would. Mom is not doing well, and now has excruciating back pain, which I pray is not a fracture, esp due to a met. she does have bad osteoporosis. If you'd pray for her too, i'd be grateful. Thank you friends.

Bless your heart, oh2binva!
Jesus knows your pain, personally! The time He was being prepared for and when He was on the Cross were filled with excruciating pain! I have a sister who has had back surgery and suffers greatly too.
Yes, we will be praying for you and your mom!

Dear Lord Jesus, You are acquainted with pain and suffering and we are pleading with You to relieve this pain in oh2binva's back make it go away. Please
heal her completely! Continue to strengthen her to say " No" every time the urge to light-up habit comes to mind to her!
We are asking You to lay Your healing hand on her mother too.
May You guide her about returning to work.
We are thanking You in advance knowing that You hear and answer prayer. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Today is day 1,400 nicotine-Free for me. I wish I could share a magic formula for breaking free of tobacco and nicotine. Unfortunately, there isn't a magic formula. It starts with Closing the Door on tobacco, the decision to deal with craves and triggers any way you can, except for using tobacco again. It won't be easy, but the Nicotine Slave Master will gradually lose its control until it becomes just annoying and, eventually, completely powerless.

Here's an email devotion that reminds me of our journey back to freedom from nicotine:

Running With Endurance

"Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abides alone: but if it die, it brings forth much fruit." (John 12:24)

You can tell the size of a Christian by what it takes to stop him. Hebrews 12:1 says we are to "run with patience the race that is set before us." And this word "patience" is not used in the sense that we use the word. It literally means "endurance."

Everybody knows that a runner is going to win or lose primarily by his endurance. You cannot quit. When it hurts, you cannot quit. When your lungs are on fire, you cannot quit. When your feet feel like lead, you cannot quit. When your sides ache, you cannot quit! You'll never be a spiritual athlete if you're a quitter! No pain. No gain.

Thank God for His power that enables you to run the race and gain the victor's crown!

Good words of encouragement, Eutychus!

Even us,who are non-smokers can apply these words to our bad habits too!
Sometimes our habits could be hurting others such as gossiping,quick-tempered,and etc.

Amazing! 1400 days nicotine-free success, your words of hope and encouragement
to others choosing to be freed from nicotine too!

Thank you both, friends, for your prayer support and emotional support.

I mentioned awhile ago that my kitty is sick, with chronic diarrhea relatively refractory to therapy since last August.. Before I went in for surgery, she started a powerful chemo drug as well as an antibiotic. For the past three weeks she has been hiding and refusing to eat but only a few bites of canned/wet food. Today I searched for her for an hour and a half. She tried to jump on the bed last night and couldn't.

I took her to an emergency vet today, as I think she is trying to die. I am in tears all day She has lost 2 lbs in a month. She is dehydrated. The vet gave her some fluids. I am heartbroken, on top of he discouragement of the past 4 weeks. I know others have it worse. I know I'm being a whiny child. But I wonder what I've done that the Lord is punishing me so? My mom is no better today, and refuses to see a doctor. I think she's scared.

I am sorry , but I am drained and in a deep valley emotionally. if you'd pray for me, i would appreciate it. I need to know what to do with my kitty, and I am guessing it will be euthanasia fairly soon. Let me be patient for the Lord's timing, and may he show mercy to me with my physical and emotional pain. Thank you,, friends. I am not good with limbo.

p.s. my back feels better today. Thank you for praying.

I feel like quitting right now, but i can't. I'm a fairly lousy Christian. But there have been no real cigarettes since 4/9.
Thank you Jesus. Thank you Euty. Thank you Betty. hugs.

Smudgie is now with the Lord, or wherever he takes the souls of beloved pets.

We've had a bad past year with cats. An older tomcat died after a bout of infected urinary tract and two were killed by a part Lab, part bulldog - the most recent was last Sunday morning, a 3 month old kitten. The dog is mine, one that I got 8 years ago from an animal shelter as a companion to my full-blooded Chocolate Lab, who died in her sleep this January.

Euty I know you love your dog, but......it's not nice to kill kitties. You were blessed to have your lab die in its sleep, but today for the third time I had to euthanize a pet. it's so hard either way.

i feel guilt, yet she has been miserable for at least three weeks. Suffering? probably. she never got a firm diagnosis other than her inflamm. bowel disease 10 months ago. Ona lot of meds in the past weeks. In pain? I don't know. but active hiding for about a week, complete withdrawal, refusal to be petted w/in the past 2 days, and refusal to eat for over a week. She's lost 2 lbs in a month.

i am sorry for your losses. My heart aches for the kitten.

PRAISE!!!!!! The doctor thinks mom just has bursitis. I pray he's right. Trying to get decent medical symptomology out of my parents is like trying to decipher Greek. Daddy said something "flew into her back". Honest to Pete, i thought a bird at first or a rock thrown. really. Until he clarified that it was sudden pain. but this is her HIP now, not her back. Oy.

Either way, God is good. :)

Thank you for your prayers, brother.

It was hard to get accurate info out of my in-laws too. Both had cancer at the same time and died about 18 months apart (he had metastasized prostate cancer and she had metastasized breast cancer). They often asked my wife, who was a nurse then, to go with them to the doctor. Between visits to the doctor, they'd talk with her sometimes about various and strange symptoms. When the doctor asked them how they had been since the last visit, they'd always say that they were fine and hadn't had any problems.

Praise the Lord that your mom doesn't appear to have cancer, but bursitis. I know that is a relief for you.

Thank you, Euty. I have been the medical liason when they have been hospitalized, but these outpatient encounters are completely confusing when related. And a lot of older people try to be stoic with their doctors. They don't realize it can hinder their care.

God bless you and family and have a blessed 4th.
